Taking Horror to a Whole New Level – "Project Slasher"

June20

Do you remember those books that were popular, I guess, back in the 1980’s – the choose your own adventure stories? You know, where you would get a few options and then you would flip to the page to continue reading. Well, Project Slasher has a new twist on those old adventures in the form of a horror movie.

Starring, Ambre Lake, VH1’s Rock of Love 2 winner, you get to choose what happens next as her day goes from normal to frightening. One word of caution, it is a horror film, use discretion with younger children.

I will admit, I am not a big fan of horror flicks, but I was completely intrigued by their premise. Of course, I’m sure it helps that I am a huge fan of Ambre. I found it to be interesting and empowering. You have the option to make her the victim or the vindicator – of course you will have to explore the story to figure out what happens which way. Yes, I backed up and watched the different paths she could take.

The current online version is a teaser to an upcoming full-length feature film with the same interactive concept. Shot quickly and on a low-budget, the film has already received positive feedback and an organically growing fan base. We had a chance to talk directly with the Executive Producer of Project Slasher, Jared Hoffa. (Pictured Left: Jared Hoffa)

What kind of success have had since you debuted? What kind of feedback are you receiving?

It has been a wonderful journey receiving two dozen emails from viewers who LOVED the concept and their only regret was that it isn’t longer. Within 24 hours that Projectslasher.com became live, webhits increased by 10,000 with an abundant exposure on People.com, D-list.com, and several other celebrity websites.

Has it helped that the main character, played by Ambre Lake, is the recent winner of the popular VH1 show Rock of Love 2?

As far as Ambre goes – she is absolutely amazing. We’ve been working with her for a few years now and I’ve always known her to be a talented actress. Clearly, Rock of Love II was a nice catalyst to promote this new type of film, but ultimately, with or without the show, Ambre Lake would have made Project Slasher a success.

What are your plans for the future?

The future is very bright. We are currently in pre-production for the feature version of this film. The feature, just like its short-film counterpart, will contain the interactive concept. The feature will also consist of a much higher production value, more in-depth story, and significant improvements to the original. To put simply, if you like what you saw originally, the feature is going to be a hell of a lot more fun.

Visit www.ProjectSlasher.com to watch the movie and support the project. I applaud their efforts to try something different and wish them the most success.

Jared Hoffa originally met Ambre Lake as the Creative Service Producer for NBC5 and the Associate Producer for NBC Universal and is now the Executive Producer of Project Slasher. Look for an interview with Ambre Lake coming in the next few weeks!
