What’s Your Third Base?

May20

A new book called “Third Base Ain’t What It Used to Be” by Logan Levkoff talks about teenage sexuality and the differences of the definition of “third base” by teenagers compared to older generations, apparently it has progressed from below the belt touching to oral sex.

When I was in high school, I’m not sure we really focused on the bases…everybody seemed more preoccupied with the score.

Then I had to think…were there any times when I reached third base with a boy/man that didn’t lead to a homerun? Hmm. Oh, oh wait. Oh, yes. Oh, NO. There was that ONE time – ugh! Yep. *sigh*

Ok, moving on, so maybe it was just me. I was pretty naïve until I was 18 and even then it was questionable. Anyway, I think about the pressure there is on kids, and maybe more precisely, teens, to be sexually active. And even more, the prevalence of STD’s is mind boggling. The nonchalant attitude and vindictive actions, like purposely giving a partner an STD just because ___(fill in the blank)___. I’ve even heard that the new thing is to throw oral sex parties. Wow. Talk about exploring your sexuality.

Geez, most nights I’m happy if I get to third base with my husband. JUST KIDDING. We always make it to home plate. So, what’s the deal? Are teenagers really progressing the level of intimacy or is it that they are becoming more open and talking about it? My other theory: we’re just the next generation wondering what the heck the younger generation is doing in the bedroom. Those darn kids!

The interview with the author is interesting, you can read it here. Also, google the title of the book and you will get a few other interviews with different perspectives. I applaud her approach and honesty about sexuality. I look forward to reading the book.
